Ugandan Police Caught Lying; Tells Pastors to ‘shut up’ on Sodomy

In an effort to save face, the Ugandan Police ordered Pastor Solomon Male, Pastor, Martin Ssempa and others to “keep silent” and not make any comments on the ongoing investigations of Sodomy cases and accusations against Pastor Kayanja.

However, this comes at a time when two of Pastor Robert Kayanja’s accusers appeared at the Police CID Headquarters and told Journalists that they have never retracted any of their statements and charges of Sodomy against Pastor Robert Kayanja.

This turn of events totally contradicts the statements issued by Uganda’s CID Chief in which he claimed before the Press that Pastor Robert Kayanja’s accusers had dropped all charges and retracted their statements.

What makes the case more interesting is that one of the Sodomy victims is David Mukalazi, a 36 year old male who is a well known Musician and played Keyboards at the Rubaga Miracle Center.

Mr. Mukalazi went head-on to the CID Offices in Kampala before Uganda’s Press and stated categorically that he has never retracted any of his statements and charges of Sodomy his made against Pastor Robert Kayanja. He in fact stated that he had gone back to the CID Offices to re-state his statement and charges of Sodomy against Pastor Robert Kayanja.

With all the Media Attention following this Ugandan high profile case, Uganda’s Police was caught off guard lying, and to avoid further embarrassment, they issued a ‘decree’ that the Pastors should not comment on the Sodomy Case.

It is very clear that Ugandan Police is compromised beyond repair in this case and an independent commission of inquiry and truth should be set up with the aim of providing justice to the young sodomized boys.

It is well known that a number of high ranking Ugandan Government officials and including high ranking Police Officers are members of Pastor Robert Kayanja's Church. It is therefore going to be difficult to get Justice for the Sodomized boys.

It is a shame that Uganda’s Police is proving to be not an instrument of Justice for the weak but has become a haven for all kinds of law breakers, a place were corrupt government officials find refuge and those who are victimized are treated as criminals.

Pastors told to stop comments on sodomy case
News | May 20, 2009 | Andrew Bagala |Kampala

The Police yesterday ordered  the pastors being interrogated on allegations that they set up Rubaga Miracle Cathedral Pastor Robert Kayanja in a sodomy allegations,  not to comment on any matter regarding the case in the press.

Pastor Martin Ssempa told journalists after his brief meeting with the Criminal Investigations Directorate boss Edward Ochom and his deputy in charge of investigations, Moses Sakira at Kibuli that the group had been warned of dire consequences if they continue commenting about the issues in the media.
“I can’t comment because the detectives have told me not to do so,” Pastor Ssempa told journalists.

Although Pastor Ssempa of Makerere Community Church, together with his colleagues Solomon Male of Arise for Christ and Bob Kayiira of Omega Healing Centre appeared at 11am yesterday at CID headquarters as directed by detectives, only Pastor Kayiira was interrogated. All the pastors have been told to again appear at CID  today at 9am.
Accordingly, the pastors have been told not to address press conferences and make comments.

The orders were issued by Mr Ochom and Mr Sakira.
CID publicist Joseph Obwana confirmed the development but said the pastors were only restricted on what they discussed with interrogators.
“The director (CID) was trying to advise them against making unnecessary comments to the media,” Mr Obwana said.

Surprisingly, the two alleged victims, Mr  Samson Mukisa and Mr David Mukalazi, whom police said retracted their earlier statements of sodomy against Pastor Kayanja, appeared at CID with their lawyer Andrew Kasirye and denied retracting  their statements.
Mr Mukalazi said: “I recorded that last statement at CID headquarters a month ago but I have never changed my statement. I have come to CID to give reaffirm that.”

However, detectives did not record his statement but concentrated on Mr Mukisa who by press time was still being interrogated.  His alleged mother, Oliver Nansubuga, also appeared at CID.

Mr Ochom on Sunday summoned five pastors after CID investigated cases in which six people including; Mr Samson Mukisa, Mr James Ntwatwa, Mr Ronny Mutebi, Mr David Mukalazi, Mr Akansiime and Mr Robinson Matovu alleged that they were sodomised by Pastor Kayanja while they were  at his Rubaga Miracle Cathedral.

Police quiz pastor over sodomy claims
Tuesday, 19th May, 2009   | By Herbert Ssempogo

ANOTHER pastor has been questioned over claims that Pastor Robert Kayanja of Rubaga Miracle Centre sodomised boys.

Pastor Bob Male of Omega Healing Centre in Namasuba, a Kampala suburb, reported to the Criminal Investigation Directorate in Kibuli at 9:00am.

In the company of his lawyer, Paul Rutisya, he waited until 11:00am when he was taken the office of the CID deputy director, Moses Sakira. He was questioned for allegedly falsifying information and swearing a false affidavit.

Two hours later, an upbeat Male came out of the CID offices and shook hands with friends.

“It was not as tough as I thought. The battle against homosexuality continues,” he vowed.

Also interrogated was Samson Mukisa, one of Kayanja’s accusers, who arrived with his lawyer, Andrew Kasirye.

Mukisa denied having any connection with Olivia Nansubuga, a woman, who yesterday claimed to be his mother.

“I don’t know the woman,” Mukisa told journalists.

He refuted allegations that he had retracted his earlier statement against Pastor Kayanja.

Mukisa and Kasirye’s lawyer later met with the CID director, Edward Ochom for about 45 minutes. Ochom then led Mukisa to Sakira’s office for fresh interrogation.

By press time, Mukisa was still at Kibuli.

Nansubuga, dressed in black, also arrived in Kibuli. It was not clear if she had been summoned.

Pastors Solomon Male and Martin Ssempa, who were interrogated on Monday, spent the entire day at the directorate, but were told to return today.

In a related development, a 36-year-old man, David Mukalizi, yesterday surfaced at the CID with fresh sodomy allegations against Kayanja.
